Many older bathrooms have good square footage – but they don’t feel that way! For these Aurora, IL homeowners, a corner tub was taking up too much valuable floor space, while the dark wood cabinetry shrank the space visually. It was time for big changes, and J&J was able to help them transform this master bath top to bottom. One soothing oasis: coming right up!
Goals:
The homeowners craved a more modern shower, a lighter look, and a bathtub that better fit their lifestyle. Using a new color scheme, a better layout, and sophisticated natural textures, we were able to introduce much more light and a completely new feel.
Natural, Uplifting Colors
It all begins with the walls! Setting the tone for this big update: Benjamin Moore – Springfield Sage 510. The Aura Bath and Spa formula provides a matte finish designed for high-humidity environments such as bathrooms and spas.
The classic green shade is a great counterpoint to the subtle, swirled colors of the floor tiles and vanity. Stonefire Grey Matte 12×24 Tile was used on the floors for the feel of natural stone with the durability and convenience of porcelain. Additional pattern shows up in the choice of countertop. There, HanStone Fusion in MV623, reverses the color scheme of the floor, and does it with flair. You’ll see this subtle shading again in the shower: look for it on the sill and corner footrest.
An Open Feel With a New Shower
Removing the old tub allowed for big changes! The homeowners chose a spacious shower with 1/2″ Thick Shower Glass that lets the light shine through this formerly dark space. A set of complementary tile choices are used throughout – the subtle differences in size, color blends, and texture prevent a monotone effect.
Large areas of shower tiling can overwhelm a room, but Eon’s lovely Eldorado tile helps add to the new lighter look the homeowners craved. It has the richness of veined marble in every section. 12×24 Tile was utilized for the walls, with Herringbone style tile lining the 28”H Schluter Wall Niche. It’s also used on the adjacent tub area wall.
Kohler Devonshire Polished Chrome Shower Fixtures with upgraded Rain head round out the luxurious new shower space. Underfoot: The same Stonefire Grey tile used elsewhere in the bath is used on the shower floor: this time in a 2×2 size.
The addition of the luxurious new shower didn’t mean that long relaxing soaks were over! We replaced the old corner unit with a Sunstruck 66″x36″ Oval Freestanding White model. This simple, spacious tub features a Kohler Devonshire Polished Chrome faucet that blends well with the quiet greys of the tilework. It’s a wonderful way to stretch out and wind down.
