A Custom Indoor Swim Spa Addition Built for Year-Round Use

Niyi and Lakesha Kuye wanted a swim spa, but not something tucked outside and used a few months a year. They wanted a dedicated space they could use anytime.

So instead of working around their home, we built onto it. The existing deck was removed and replaced with a custom addition designed specifically for the swim spa, from the foundation up.

Inside, the space is flooded with natural light from a full wall of windows and overhead skylights. Every material, such as the luxury plank flooring and the Benjamin Moore Aura Bath & Spa paint, was selected to handle moisture, humidity, and daily use without sacrificing a clean, finished look.

The end result is a bright, durable, year-round space that feels like a natural extension of the home that's built successfully around how the homeowners actually want to use it.

Building the Space: From Deck to Dedicated Addition

Unlike many additions, this project didn’t start with an empty lot. It started with an existing deck that simply wasn’t going to cut it for what the homeowners had planned.

We removed the deck entirely and built a new rear addition designed specifically to support the size, weight, and long-term use of a swim spa. That meant a new foundation, proper structural support, and a layout that made the space feel intentional.

Because this room needed to function year-round, everything from insulation to airflow was considered early in the planning process.

What used to be an outdoor platform is now a fully enclosed, purpose-built room that feels like it was always meant to be part of the home.

The Lift: Coordinating the Swim Spa Installation

Getting the room ready was one thing. Getting the swim spa into it was another.

Because of its size and weight, it had to be lifted over the home with a crane and set precisely into place. That required tight coordination between the swim spa vendor, crane operator, and construction timeline, with everything aligned.

When it all came together, the lift was executed in a single, carefully planned move, placing the swim spa exactly where it needed to be.

The surrounding hardscaping was completed by another contractor, and working alongside additional teams like this helps ensure every part of the project comes together the right way.

Designed for Light: A Bright, Open Interior

With a space like this, light makes all the difference and it was a top priority from the start.

A full wall of windows brings in natural light throughout the day, while skylights above keep the space bright even when the sun shifts. The result is a room that feels open and connected to the outdoors, even though it’s fully enclosed.

The result? A space that feels intentional, bright, airy, and built to be used year-round.

Built for Performance: Materials That Handle Moisture and Humidity

A room built around a swim spa needs to do more than look good. It has to perform.

To handle constant moisture and humidity, we used luxury plank vinyl flooring for its durability and water resistance, making it ideal for a space like this. The walls and ceiling were finished with Benjamin Moore Aura® Bath & Spa paint, created specifically to resist moisture and maintain its finish over time.

These choices aren’t flashy, but they matter. They’re what keep the space looking clean, holding up to daily use, and functioning the way it should long after the project is complete, without extensive maintence, water damage, mold, or replacing the finishes.

A Space Built Around How It’s Used

Every decision in this project was driven by how the homeowners wanted to use the space. It needed to feel open, handle moisture, and be comfortable year-round.

By combining natural light, durable materials, and a layout built specifically around the swim spa and space to unwind just outside, the space delivers on all of it without feeling overbuilt or out of place.
