Our design team loves nothing more than a repeat client, and it is truly the highest compliment we can receive! This Aurora family enjoyed their J&J Construction kitchen remodel so much that when they got an inkling to enclose their exterior porch for additional living space, we were their first phone call. Screened in porches provide a covered space to enjoy the outdoor fresh air and nature without the weather elements or insects. It’s the best of both worlds. Not only is this a lovely addition to any home, it has a high return on investment (about 75%). If you’re considering a screened in porch, let’s take a look at this finished product for inspiration.
When it comes to selecting deck flooring material, Trex stands apart from the rest. Here we’ve incorporated Trex flooring in toasted sand installed parallel to the house. This particular flooring is from Trex’s Enhance collection, which demonstrates the beauty of wood with the ease of composite. It is scratch and weather resistant with little maintenance, making it perfect for families to enjoy for years to come. Most of the fascia including railing posts and stair risers are bright white with complimentary black rail tops, bottoms, and spindles. Don’t make the mistake of choosing any other flooring. Trex is the gold standard.
Lighting and electricity are key considerations when adding a screened porch to any home. There should be plenty of air flow, and a larger ceiling fan will help circulate that cool summer breeze. Additionally, lighting is necessary if homeowners plan to spend evenings on the porch working, or just relaxing with music. Perfectly placed outlets can make this space more comfortable and functional. Down the line, our homeowners may want to incorporate a television or audio speaker system for entertaining, and having the outlets there will make this seamless. Our team planned ahead and considered their current electrical panel to make sure everything was in order for the renovation. When designing a screened-in porch, a roofing solution is equally as important as what type of screening is selected. For most projects we try to match the homeowner’s current roofing. This provides a finished product that looks cohesive, as if the addition had been there all along. Gable roofs are among the most common roofs you’ll see with screened-in porches. A gable roof resembles a triangle, coming together in the middle to form a pitch. This pitch allows water to run off the roof. A hip roof is a bit more complex. This structure resembles a pyramid and allows for an open vaulted ceiling on the interior. For this project we’ve selected a hip roof. It requires more building material, but the finished product is sturdy, with a gorgeous interior.
