Sometimes remodeling means mixing old and new. Case in point: this kitchen project in Naperville. The homeowners were happy with the room’s layout, countertops, and light fixtures. J&J was happy to help their other wish list items appear. Read on to see some innovative storage solutions and the elegant results.
A Naperville Kitchen Remodel Combines Old and New Beautifully
The existing kitchen worked quite well. The slab countertops were already beautiful, and the layout was efficient. You’ll even see these light fixtures again!
One dramatic difference is the area over the sink. By replacing a small wall-mounted cabinet with open shelving and adding subway tiling to the walls, the entire side of the room seems to grow taller and more spacious. Now, it blends perfectly with the adjacent French doors and open dining area. The owners selected Alys Edwards Man About You 2×8 tile in Casual Flirt for their new backsplash. It provides a warm neutral background for showing off their pottery pieces.
Underneath the island, Woodharbor cabinets in a contrasting color were chosen. Charlotte doors were used throughout the kitchen. Here, the finish was Black, with an enamel sheen.
The rest of the cabinets were finished in Coastal White, using a Sable glaze and a matte sheen. Existing appliances remained in place.
The butler’s pantry area was also transformed and given a new purpose. New wall tile and custom cabinet configurations turned a former desk space into a well-engineered bottle storage area. It’s gently illuminated and treats precious vintages with care.
There were a variety of clever custom storage solutions that were added into this remodel. Although the new cabinets look sleek and minimalist, there are some surprises hidden behind closed drawers!
Everything now has a place in the kitchen island. The homeowners selected some of Woodharbor’s attractive options to keep their lives organized, including a knife block, cutlery drawer, and dish storage drawers.
Over at the pantry and other locations, you’ll find more magic. Custom cabinets now use every bit of potential space, giving a home for spices and more. Slide-out drawers give access to the deepest recesses of cabinets.
The overall change is amazing! Even the ceilings seem higher in this renovation. The homeowners have a beautiful new space that works for entertaining, cooking, or a simple cup of tea at the table or counter.
