At J&J Construction, we love helping homeowners bring their vision to life. One Aurora family came to us with a request to merge their separate kitchen and dining areas, creating an expansive, open-concept kitchen perfect for modern living. The transformation involved removing a dividing wall and adding French doors to connect the kitchen to the front sitting room, resulting in a bright and welcoming space.
Today’s families need versatile kitchen spaces that accommodate everything from quick breakfasts to hosting gatherings. This redesigned kitchen features a spacious island that serves as a meal prep station, dining spot, and entertainment hub all in one.
The island, painted in Hale Navy, is topped with durable HanStone Montauk Quartz, offering a stunning contrast to the crisp Simply White cabinetry. The backsplash, a Lunada Bay Sonare Shooting
Star tile in Pearl Tone, enhances the space with a subtle shimmer that pairs beautifully with stainless steel appliances.
We installed Woodharbor Breeze cabinets in the Forest Park door style, a favorite for modern kitchens. The top drawers feature a sleek slab design, while the lower drawers have a Manor Flat style, adding dimension to the space. Soft-close hinges ensure a quiet and smooth experience, making them ideal for busy households.
A standout feature is the lattice-design bar nook, which includes a built-in wine refrigerator. The addition of traditional crown molding enhances the cabinetry, giving the space a polished and refined look.
The kitchen sink area features a stainless steel Kohler undermount sink, paired with a polished chrome Purist faucet—an architectural fixture inspired by professional kitchens. This combination ensures durability and efficiency.
The original hardwood floors showed significant wear, so we replaced them with 3 ¼” oak hardwood in a warm Fruitwood stain. Hardwood remains a popular choice for kitchens due to its timeless appeal and ability to create a seamless transition between adjacent rooms.
To complete the space, the homeowners selected stunning Kohler Artifacts light fixtures, including adjustable pendants over the sink, a five-light chandelier over the island, and a three-light chandelier above the dining table. These fixtures add elegance and ambiance to the space.
One of the most striking updates was the installation of French doors, creating a smooth transition between the kitchen and front sitting room. We also reconfigured the window placement, installing a brand-new window to enhance natural light and improve functionality.
As part of this renovation, we also transformed the homeowner’s powder room to reflect the same sophisticated style as the kitchen. The space features a Kohler rectangular sink, a polished chrome faucet, and a Kohler Highline chair-height toilet with a dual flush system. To maintain design cohesion, we installed Hale Navy Woodharbor Breeze cabinetry and topped it with the same quartz countertop as the kitchen.
This project is a perfect example of how thoughtful design choices can enhance both beauty and functionality. If you’re ready to reimagine your kitchen or bath, contact J&J Construction to start your journey toward a dream space!
