For anyone ready to update a bathroom, tile may not be getting all the consideration it should. Here at J&J Construction, we’re constantly surprised at the new ideas, finishes, and looks that our suppliers bring us. Porcelain that looks like wood, and wears like iron? Subway tiles in every color under the sun? Metallic finishes? Wow!
Since it’s possible to finish out a bathroom in tile on practically every surface, we thought we’d share some of the latest trends and examples.
Cool and Easy
Blue is always a classic for any bathroom – any shade comes off as fresh. Let’s look here at how cool blue can blend with neutrals and at another hot look: herringbone-patterned walls.
This is a great example of how a bit of pattern can keep a very simple, clean bathroom design from looking boring. The grey-toned blue also blends nicely with granite and marble looks, without taking away from the serene feel.
Herringbone tile, also known as “chevron” can be found in a range of sizes. If this look appeals to you, it can also be used on floors or shower walls.
Warm and Inviting
Warming it up, coppery hues and natural wood looks are on the other end of the color spectrum. Believe it or not, those wonderful wooden planks in the main photo are actually porcelain tiles! A popular size for these tiles is 6” x 24”, giving a realistic effect without the worries of wooden floors.
They come in any type of wood finish you can imagine – and look like real wood, even close-up.
You’ll also see a metallic-look tile that complements the coppery sink basin and wood textures. Great use of a high-impact shape and glossiness for big style dividends!
Classic and Serene
Sleek and classic is the feel of this grouping. Traditional square tiles are water-resistant and stone finishes such as granite and marble are set to continue their popularity. However, these tough ceramic and porcelain versions don’t need special care. They also look fantastic with the slate black walls in the main photo.
We’ve also shown some of the newer trends in subway tiles, which can be found in non-traditional patterns and treatments. Hard-working subway tiles are rectangular and can be purchased in many sizes.
Last but not least, this mirrored tile is a little bit glamorous and not that hard to add to your own bathroom. The chunky tiles are totally on-trend in the design world.
Totally Tile for the Win!
In our last set of inspirational photos, you’ll see another hot trend: glass mosaic tile accents. These are the perfect way to add direction and accents to a subdued color palette! As shown, they can break up a wall, decorate a backsplash, and are also perfect for shower niches. They can also make it easy to provide a dash of color to any bath.
This bathroom features tile from the floors to the shower to the walls. It looks warm and inviting, but still has the low-maintenance aspects of ceramic and porcelain. Each different tile works together harmoniously, adding just the right amount of pattern.
